John Adams is the founder of JA Recovery based out of Carmel, IN. For more than a decade, he has been involved in the behavioral health community and substance use disorder field in several different capacities.
During his time in recovery and working in the field, John saw an opportunity to provide services to enhance the recovery process and overall experience for the person struggling as well as their family.
John founded JA Recovery with the belief that everyone should have a trusted partner to guide them through the overwhelming process of asking for help, getting treatment and living a meaningful life in recovery.
When John graduated from Hanover College with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, he didn’t initially go into the mental health field. Instead, he entered the executive recruiting world and was successful doing that for many years–until he wasn’t.
In 2011, John’s recovery journey began. As he worked through his career in mental health and addiction treatment John saw the same patterns–loved ones uncertain about how to address the person struggling, families overwhelmed with the task of finding the right treatment and then the really difficult task for everyone—understanding how to operate once out of the safety of a treatment facility.
JA Recovery was the answer to this problem. John has turned his life’s mission of helping others in recovery into a career. John is a Certified Intervention Specialist (CIP) through the Pennsylvania Certification Board as well as a Certified Addiction Peer Recovery Coach (CAPRC I) through ICAADA.
John is married, has two children and two dogs. He loves spending time with them and being present in their lives. As a hobby, his favorite thing in the world is fly fishing. His second favorite thing is spending time at the family lake cottage in Southern Indiana. John has actually turned his passion for fishing into a therapeutic offering.
Without John’s own recovery, none of this would be possible. This life works for John, and his greatest hope is to help clients create long-lasting recovery…well beyond the time spent together.
