I have three children that have catapulted me into learning about and focusing on self-care, self-discovery, self-regulation, and my own childhood trauma. My oldest has severe anxiety and PTSD. My middle has a pervasive feeling of being nothing and he has chosen substances to self-medicate. My youngest has anxiety and depression as well as being on his own journey as an LGBTQ young adult in a tumultuous world. I have found that support groups have changed my life. I love to hear other people’s stories and share my own because I feel less alone and ashamed. I am less likely to hide in plain sight by shining a light on myself and being willing to share my vulnerability with others.
