When we learn to listen intuitively to our body, mind, and spirit, we open the door to healing, hope, and growth. By tuning in—through movement, reflection, and stillness—we can begin to restore our inner balance.
At OPLM, July is Intuition Month—the perfect time to explore how deepening your connection with your body and inner wisdom can support healing in every area of your life.
Becoming a Seeker of Light
I’ve started to think of myself as a seeker of light on this journey. One meditation, shared with me by my amazing mother and written by author Donna Ashworth, has been a powerful source of inspiration as I’ve worked to strengthen my intuition and awareness.
Donna Ashworth often uses “light” as a metaphor for hope, inner strength, and resilience—especially in the face of darkness or adversity. Her writing reminds us that the light is always there, even when we can’t see it, and that we can find it within ourselves and others.
Her meditation speaks of:
“Sunrises, sunsets, clouds split from above, rainbows and prisms that shine their way through doors and windows and anywhere they can. Sparkles on water and glimmers on snow and ice.”
This message has resonated deeply with me, especially on a personal journey that has included both darkness and profound healing.
Facing Darkness and Reaching for Light
I’ve always been afraid of the dark. I needed a little bit of light—nightlights, open doors—but I never really understood why until recently. Through years of therapy and trauma work, including EMDR, I’ve been able to uncover and process deeply held childhood trauma.
While that work has been painful, it’s also allowed me to begin healing my relationship with darkness and reclaiming my own light. For the first time, I’ve felt myself reaching toward the light, rather than hiding from the dark.
What Light Means to Me
For me, light shows up in many forms. I’ve always shared my light with others—whether I’m supporting fellow parents, teaching students, or showing up for friends and family. Light is power. Just like hope.
Being outside in the sun is one of the ways I nourish my body and spirit. Even small moments—a sunbeam through the window, a sparkle on the water—feel like reminders to pause, breathe, and receive.
This summer, I’m committing to listen intuitively to my mind, body, and spirit. I’m watching for the glimmers—those tiny, fleeting moments of joy and connection—and letting them light the way forward.
I hope to connect with you during our OPLM meetings and hear how you’re seeking light in your own life.
