Marcie S.

May 4 @ 4:07 am EDT

A native of Connecticut, Marcie is an OPLM Peer Parent and is also currently teaching Hebrew School and tutoring students for their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs. She has worked in the field of education as well as Jewish day/overnight camping for many years. She is the proud mother of a 21 year old daughter, a 19 year old son, and an adorable mini goldendoodle.

Both of Marcie’s children have struggled with mental health since they were very young. She has continued to advocate for them as they have navigated through these challenges.  Five years ago, her son’s mental health struggles  led to substance abuse and addiction. After months of trying to fix and enable him,  he was sent to a therapeutic wilderness program in Georgia. Following that stay, he had a very successful treatment experience at In Balance Ranch Academy in Arizona. After transitioning home for almost a year, he made the decision that he needed to go back to treatment at In Balance Sober Living in Tucson. The last few years have brought some challenges and many successes. She is filled with gratitude.

Marcie began her own recovery journey in order to walk beside her son on his path almost 3 years ago. She began working her own Al Anon program and also gained a lot of strength and confidence in the community support group meetings. Marcie was trained as a Parent Coach through the Partnership To End Addiction.

Today, Marcie hopes to continue sharing her compassion, knowledge and experience as a Peer Parent and is passionate about helping other families in the OPLM community. This community has brought so much connection, understanding, and support to Marcie.
